Preparing for the Future – Improving Project Management Performance

The Project Management Institute defines the Project Management Office (PMO) as “…an organizational body or entity assigned various responsibilities related to the centralized and coordinated management of those projects under its domain.”

PMO performance is critical to ensure investments made to support strategic goals or to maintain operational standards realize the required results. As we enter the second half of 2021, many organizations prepare themselves to participate in the investments anticipated across the various aspects of the U.S. infrastructure.

Dairyland Power Cooperative, a wholesale power electric cooperative with 24 cooperative members across Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois has a vision “To grow, innovate and deliver value as a premier member‐driven energy cooperative through safe, reliable and sustainable solutions.” The performance of their Project Management Office is critical to support this vision.

MATRIX PMO is proud to announce that Dairyland has engaged MATRIX to work with the Dairyland team to assess and to identify opportunities to improve performance of their project management efforts. The effort is focused focus on People, Process and Technology.

The performance improvement process will be conducted using the PMI “Project Management Body of Knowledge” and MATRIX subject matter expertise as the basis for the performance objectives and criteria examined. Industry best practices will be incorporated where applicable to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Dairyland Project Management Program.

The primary objectives of the assessment will be to:

  • Assess current state performance of Dairyland Project Management

  • Apply PMI and industry best practices and standards as benchmarks

  • Bring experience from PMO practitioner perspective

  • Identify improvements in People, Process & Technology

Successful completion of the effort will result in better predictability and improved communication across the Dairyland organization regarding project status and performance. The ultimate goal is to improve financial performance related to project delivery with improved return on investment.

The Dairyland leadership team is preparing Dairyland for the future by anticipating an ever‐increasing scope of infrastructure investment to ensure a safe, reliable, and sustainable reliable supply of power to its members. They are focused on providing members competitive wholesale rates and increasing member satisfaction.

This initiative supports the Dairyland Mission “To power our communities and empower cooperative members to improve the quality of their lives.”
